Are organizations really paying this much to outsource social media?

Recently, @EdBennett asked: "Are organizations really paying this much to outsource Social Media?" It is hard to believe. Please have a look at the figures below.

For a Blog:

Launch a blog from the ground-up, outsource all content creation (including customer interaction) – $3,000-$6,000 a month

Launch a blog from the ground-up, outsource all content creation at first, eventually take over – $3,000-$6,000 a month for 3-6 months

Limited coaching to improve your existing blogging efforts – $1,500-$4,000 a month for 3-6 months

For Twitter:

Launch a new presence on Twitter and outsource all content creation at first, gradually taking over – $2,000-$5,000 a month for 3-6 months

Restructure an existing Twitter presence to improve your efforts – $1,500-$4,000 a month for 3-6 months

For a Facebook fan page:

Launch a Facebook Fan Page from the ground-up, outsourcing all content creation and customer interactions – $3,000-$6,000 a month

  1. In Australia we would say
"kick it me, kick it me"
Hard work, common sense, a practical knowledge of computers, standard courtesy and a belief in their product or company...these are surely 'internal things' and not 'externally sourced' commodities

  4. The funny thing about my posting those prices is that there has been two responses:

1 - Your prices are way too high

2 - Your prices are way too low

Interestingly, #2 is mostly coming from fellow agencies, consultants, and companies that have hired others to perform social media work for them. Not sure if that's a good or bad thing.
